Artist Statement
Schall’s work addresses tensions around women’s autonomy, appearance, and sensuality. By repositioning the male gaze through unexpected angles and saturated colors, Schall presents female figures with authority rather than as passive subjects. Her paintings explore women’s freedom to express sensuality authentically, beyond narrow definitions or expectations. The precise rendering and compositional choices showcase each figure’s depth and self-possession, inviting viewers to engage with women as subjects in their own right.

--
Born in Colorado in 1985, Schall earned her BFA from Colorado State University in 2008 before moving to New York City to launch her career in photorealistic painting and drawing. After relocating to New Orleans in 2015, a severe neck injury left her unable to work for several years. During rehabilitation, she taught herself to sew and now incorporates this skill by creating the gloves that appear in her paintings.
