Cal Freeman

A Public Access Show

Our county fair features a dozen crops.
My life’s a public access TV show.
Here’s where we store the yeast and knead the dough.
Here’s angular momentum in a top.
I’ll teach you how to tie a Windsor knot
in a phosphor-treated field where soybeans grow.
My life’s an amateur horse show.
I live on corn dogs, fries, and soda pop.

But let us go explore the River Raisin
in Uncle Viktor’s little fishing boat.
Throw on your waders and your Gore-Tex coat.
I’ll tell you of gobies’ proliferation,
why horses hang their heads down as they lope.
Shotgun on the pommel, gunwales, rope.
