Artist Statement

Art for me begins as a reaction to patterns and processes I notice in my life. While the final work is visual, much of my thinking happens early in the creative process. As a developing artist, my inspirations come from everyday experiences rather than grand ideas, and I find meaning in extracting more from less. My approach is interdisciplinary, allowing me to connect small, personal observations to larger human experiences. I am especially interested in how we form emotional relationships with everyday objects and spaces, and how repeated use leaves behind a personal imprint that transforms even temporary environments into a sense of home.

Hawon Suh was born in Manhattan, NY, United States and has long been drawn to creative expression across disciplines. She has spent time moving between the US and Seoul, Korea but has spent much of her time growing up in the Bay Area, California. As a current junior attending Seoul Foreign School in Korea, she is informed by a diverse cultural intersection that informs her view of the world and her work.
