Artist Statement

“Animals Belong Outside the House” and “Wedding/Escape from Pomarico” are from the Meta Mama Operas series. The fantastical “Meta Mama Opera” composites were created from Vitacco's original photos, old family pictures and scanned artifacts. They capture emotion and illustrate family history in a surreal and humorous way.

Terry Vitacco creates surreal photographic composites, portraits and flower studies. The fantastical images from her “Meta Mama Operas” series come from her original photos, vintage family pictures and scanned artifacts. The composites celebrate the love, dysfunction, irony, melancholy and humor of family folklore and illustrate her late mother’s oft repeated stories that haunt her to this day.
